First of all, let me thank Judy for the capitalization. I'm sorry about all the I's, and I think it's great that you are so careful with the language issue. I just hope I will not bother you with this anymore... (obviously, English isn't my native language)
Anyway, when I was reading the group's opinions about Luna, I got an idea. As I recall, JKR announced that we will find out more things about the Ravenclaw ghost, which was supposed to be named the Grey Lady.We haven't found out anything about her, as far as I recall, but can this ghost have something to do with Luna? (I thought, of course, about her mom, but there one obvious fact in the way - we don't really know how long have the ghosts been at Hogwarts, and we must assume that they have been around for a very long time - since the founding, maybe... BTW, speaking of ghosts, I think that JKR has some serious explanations to devise here, since the Gryffindor ghost (!!) admits to having been afraid of death. I'm sure we'll hear some more of the matter, and the veil must be brought up again in the story).

There is a kind of a reference to the Thestrals in PoA:

"Harry, Ron and Hermione followed the rest of the school out onto a rough mud track, where at least a hundred stagecoaches awaited the remaining students, each pulled, Harry could only assume, by an invisible horse..." UK edition, p.68

This is the first time Harry travelles by the Hogwarts carriages. Obviously, he only assumes that there are invisible horses but this may indicate that JKR had the idea back then. She may decided about the specifics of the horses only when writing OOP but I think she knew from the beginning that the carriages are pulled by invisible horses.

Just a thought,

Monika
