"What relevance could it possibly have to the plot?" What relevance
does Harry's interest in Cho have to the plot?
Diana -
this does have relevance to the plot because it is Harry's
story. The book is not called Severus Snape and the Goblet of Fire,
or Sirius Black and the Chamber of Secrets. It is all about Harry's
feelings and life. We do not see much of the teacher's or adults
life in general, apart from Molly and Arthur.
I don't think anyone's expecting or asking for a detailed description of the
relationship between other characters but having Sirius and remus as a
couple (or any other slash pairings you fancy I just picked them as the most
likely pairing imo) wouldn't have to be a big thing any more than the fact
that Bill is clearly dating the annoying French girl is or Ginny's
relationship with Michael. Having someone turn up to a dance with a partner
of the same gender would be as relevent to the plot as knowing that Fred
took Angelina to the Yule Ball and could be covered with as little fuss.
After all JKR says that there are 1000 students at Hogwarts - some of them
surely must be gay or bisexual.
Diana -
Yes, teenagers do, but this book is also read by 7,8,and 9 year
olds. Let them stay innocent as long as they can.
Me -
Again no one's asking for Harry Potter the X rated edition. Seeing a gay
couple interracting together as a married couple would or hand in hand or
Merlion forbid even kissing wouldn't have any more effect on the 'innocence'
of a child than Harry's doomed date with Cho did. Unless you're saying that
knowing that gay people exist would make someone less innocent (which I'm
sure you're not)
