This is very interesting, I too have thought about Barty Jr and the 
Dementors too actually.  I am not sure of the exact wording, but in 
POA, DD makes reference that he thought it a bad idea to have 
Voldemort's "allies" (not the right word, but the only one I can 
think of) guarding the place that holds his death eaters prisoner.  
So, with the thought that the Dementors are in alligence with LV 
(just a theory), it could be possible that they really did NOT give 
Barty Jr the "kiss".  Ole Barty Jr could be pretending, where ever 
he is, to be soulless.   (I assume he would have been taken to 
Azkaban again or maybe a secure ward at St Mungos).  

And another question...if the Dementors are no longer guarding 
Azkaban, where are they?
