I'm with Rach on this one.  We know that 5 OoP members came charging 
in, before DD's arrival.  The only other good guys in the room were 
Harry and Neville, and Neville was having  trouble speaking curses 
through his bloody and broken nose. I believe we were told that there 
were 10 DEs, but I could be wrong as I don't have my book handy.  
Anyway, the odds were on the side of the DEs.  We do not read 
anything at all that implies that Remus was duelling, fitting in with 
Pippin's ESE!Lupin. 

However, I'm sure all the OoP members were firing curses and hexes as 
fast as they could; they had to, with the odds standing at 2 to 1. I 
think JKR didn't want to clutter the scene any more than it was.  
And, didn't she say that Sirius and one of the DEs were duelling so 
rapidly that their wands were blurry?  I'm sure Sirius wasn't simply 
trying to poke the guy in the eye!
