I've heard Dennis Creevey's membership in the DA presented as
a 'Flint' an implausability such as Marcus Flint's appearance in
Book 3 as an eighth year.
We know that Dennis is only a second year in OOP yet is in Hogsmeade
for the girst meeting of the DA. The main excuse presented is that
the rules were relaxed to now allow 2nd years. That seems as
unlikely an occurance as Dennis jumping ahead a grade.
My opinion to something more involved. We know that Fred and George
are leaving Hogwart's and despite their wishes, the trio of HRH fall
short of their ideal for trouble makers. My suggestion is that
Dennis and Colin may very well be F&G's chosen sucessors as
troublemakers.
They would have told Dennis and Colin about secret passages into
Hogsmeade. They might have smuggled Dennis out of Hogwart's
themselves.
I wish OOP had described the Creevey brother's performance in DA
lessons better. I expect a 2nd year training in DADA would have
given him quite a boost towards grades.
