Can anyone accurately define the following for me:
1) Hex
2) Curse
3) Charm
4) Spell
Is anyone aware of an online resource that lists every spell the
reader has been exposed to thus far in the canon? Like what it's
called, what it does, what you have to say, etc? Point me there!
Me -
The terms are used somewhat loosely. AFAIK from the books spell is a generic
term for every kind of wand waving magic. Curse and hex seem to be pretty
much interchangeable as spells used to do something unpleasent to a person
or animal, with hex maybe being less serious. A charm seems to be a spell
cast on an object to have some kind of effect on it (banishing, summoning,
levitating) or on a person for some kind of beneficial effect (healing,
cheering etc). Although memory charms make that last bit doubtful in my mind
as I'm not keen on the way they're flung around willy nilly.
As for an online list - try the Lexicon. I don't think it has *all* the OoP
stuff up yet (unless they're using a time turner to get it all done). can't
remember the link off hand but type Harry Potter Lexicon into google and it
s the first thing you hit usually. Oh and if this is the first time you've
been to the Lexicon try not to get sucked into it or you might disappear for
a week or two. I use it to check stuff for my fanfic and often find myself
reading articles that I didn't mean to as they catch my eye.
