Harry has now been deeply wounded by Sirius' death. We'll have to see
if JKR handles Harry's reactions over the summer any differently. I
wonder if she is already sending Harry on a 100-yard dash through the
stages of grief. He had immediate denial at the time of the death,
and showed anger in Dumbledore's office. I don't think we've seen
bargaining, depression and acceptance yet. As someone who suffered a
great loss as a teen, I'm interested to see how Harry's reactions are
portrayed.
Now ME:
If we're speeding through them, I didn't see bargaining, but depression came
when he was crying at the lake. He had to be there for some time, as it was
bright daylight and others were swimming when he arrived, and it was dark
and cold when he left. Acceptance could have started on the train
"The week that had elapsed since he had last seen Sirius seemed to have
lasted much, much longer: It stretched across two universes, the one with
Sirius in it, and the one without"
I hope we don't go through it that quick though. I'm not placing any bets
though, as I was way off with how I imagined the previous summer. I never
saw his complete abandonment coming. My guess, however, is that Vernon will
be intimidated enough to pull his 'treating Harry like he's not there'
route, which is what Harry usually prefers. Petunia is the wild card.
There was definitely a connection between she and Harry. As nosy and
curious as she is, I can't believe she's not dying to find out what's going
on with Voldemort. She obviously knows more than she's telling.
The OWL results are due in July, so maybe there won't be much of a gap in
the summer before we get back to Harry. The others "seem" intent on keeping
contact. I'm wondering if Petunia is the one who comes to magic late in
life, maybe even to protect Harry or her family? After the Dementor attack,
everyone was adament that Harry stay in the house. Maybe the protection
isn't good outside? Maybe the DEs (after they escape Azkaban) will show up.
I don't know. . . I just hope we get more info about Lily out of Petunia.
