I will have to go back and reread the Fight Scene but I think that
the DEs were limited in the spells that they could use due to needing
to get their hands on the Prophesy Globe. So long as it could be
damaged, they had to use spells that would not imperil it.

This "bad guy gets knocked-out/down only to wake/get-up as current
bad guy is going to get knocked-out/down" goes back to the 40's and
the serials. I once read a story that was a take-off on the John
Carter of Mars type story where the Hero was fighting off a long line
of attackers in a narrow hall (only ome attacker at a time could
fight). As he killed/disabled each one with his sword, the next in
line would take over. The villain (at the end of the line) got bored
with the wait so he pulled out his Ray Gun and blew away EVERYONE
(including the Hero - thus not only spoofing the "Take a Number and
Wait your turn to fight the Hero" Routine but also "Why are you not
using your Gun?" type of fight that was spoofed in Raiders when the
Swordsman was showing off his expertise [prior to the start of the
fight] and Indiana Jones just pulled out a gun and shot him [remember
that Raiders was a homage to the serials so it played off of many of
the serial mainstays/situations])
