But Phineas was Sirius' great-great grandfather, around before 
Riddle's time.  Phineas the portrait could possibly be a "Good Slyth" 
and even if Phineas himself could also be considered so, Darrin's 
Post-Riddle Downward Evil Spiral of Slytherin House still holds.  
Phineas was a Slytherin at Hogwarts long before Riddle was there.

Consider the Source:  Is *Riddle* really going to say to Harry 
Potter, "Well, great-great.....grandad Salazar was so upset with 
Gryffindor that he forgot his favorite pet in his Chamber.  I found 
it down here after spending years learning everything I could about 
my family history and decided it was well-suited to aid in my plan to 
purge all things muggle from the Wizarding World."?
