Hello all,
I believe that Dumbledore is Hedwig. Here are just a few of the
reasons I think this:
1) J. K. Rowling mentioned in an interview that Albus Dumbledore
means "white" or "wisdom." Hedwig is white. Owls are thought to be
a symbol of wisdom.
2) Dumbledore taught Transfig. at Hogwarts back in the day. I know
that not all Transfig. teachers are animagi but Dumbledore is the
most powerful wizard of the era. In addition, if James Potter,
Sirius Black, and Petter Pettigrew could teach themselves to be
animagi in the span of a couple of years and keep it a secret I think
Dumbledore could probably do the same. Also, Hermione says there
were seven registered animagi this century (she doens't list
Dumbledore as one of them...which she would probably do if he was
listed there), but he is over 170 years old so maybe he registered
last century. Or maybe he isn't registered at all.
3) ***SPOILER*** Dumbledore tells Harry in book five that he has been
watching him more than he knows. This would make sense if Dumbledore
was Hedwig, because Hedwig was around Harry in Grimauld Place & at
the Dursleys.
4) Watch the movie version of book one (J. K. Rowling served as a
consultant). It visually suggests that Hedwig is Dumbledore several
times. For instance, watch the scene where Harry recieves the Nimbus
2000, where does Hedwig land after delivering it? Who normally sits
left of Minerva?
5) Hagrid "purchases" Hedwig.
6) Is there ever a scene where Hedwig and Dumbledore are seen
together? (I am working on sorting this out myself)
There are more reasons, but I will end with these six. This, of
course, is just a theory. I do think, however, that it makes sense.
Jake
