While I really don't know who could be the next Peter Pettigrew, I
disagree that Ron would turn on his friends like that. I may have
agreed with you through parts of GoF; however, after OoP, I think
that Ron is a true and loyal friend to Harry. He comes to Harry's aid
when Harry is fighting with Seamus, and he could have easily just not
gotten involved in that. Likewise, he takes Harry's side many times
when Hermione is trying to get Harry to do/not do something.

I know that Ron is finally getting some acclaim in this book, which
is good. I feel that it was natural for Ron to be a bit jealous of
Harry previously. Harry is always the center of attention (whether he
wants to be or not), and Ron has always played second fiddle to his
brothers. Now for the most part, he was always second to Harry.
Overall though, I think that they balance each other nicely. In OoP,
I see Ron maturing a lot compared to his previous self. With that
maturity I also saw an increased loyalty to his best friend. I hope
that my opinion here is true, as I would hate to see Ron
as "betrayer."
