I've been convinced that DD was an animagus, transforming into a bumblebee 
ever since I first read someone's post saying that DD meant bumblebee in old 
english. It makes sense that a wizard in his position would need all the inside 
track info he could get, and buzzing around the country would be the perfect 
way. 
DD saying that he had been watching Harry more than he knew could be 
confirmation of this, especially since I remember JKR taking time to mention Harry 
hearing the droning of insects every summer at the Dursley's. She could just be 
setting the scene, but I can't believe that DD wouldn't take advantage of the 
perks of being an animagus, especially such an unobtrusive one!
