Allie, I will give you my answers to your questions. This is what I think:

> - Why is [Snape] SO SURPRISED to hear Harry say Lucius Malfoy was at
the graveyard at the end of GoF?

The text says "Snape made a sudden movement, but as Harry looked at him,
Snapes eyes flew back to Fudge." I assume that Snape is in communication
with Malfoy, leading Malfoy to believe that he is spying on Dumbledore, which
is a good reason for him to react when he heard Malfoy's name. He probably
wasn't surprised, though.

> - Similarly, WHY is he still friends with Lucius?

As I said, Snape is probably using his relationship with Lucius to spy on
Voldemort.

> - Why did he give Umbridge any Veritaserum in OoP?

Snape gave Umbridge fake Veritaserum. It says so on page 833 (American
Edition).

> - After he saw it in Harry's mind during Occlumency, shouldn't he
> have told Dumbledore that Harry saw the Department of Mysteries in
> his dream so that they could have warned Harry not to go there?

Yes, he should have. Snape often seems to act immaturely, and his actions
often make us all cringe. (Although he does have his good points -- I know
some people think he's great).

> - How can he possibly be spying on Voldemort again?

He could have secret contacts that Harry doesn't know about.

In the
> graveyard scene, when V is going around his circle of Death Eaters
> and saying who is missing, he says something like, "One too cowardly
> to return, he will be punished" - presumably Karkaroff- "and here is
> one I fear who has left me forever, he will of course be killed"- so
> if he means Snape, which I think he must, then he knows Snape has
> left him- so is he just biding his time? Is he feeding Snape false
> information as Snape is trying to spy?

I don't think we know for sure whom Voldemort was speaking of.

> - After everything that happened in GoF, why does he STILL HATE
> HARRY so much?

Like I said, he acts immaturely sometimes and needs to grow up, but
something very aweful must have happened in Snapes past to make him that
way (probably worse than what James and Sirius did after their OWLs.

> - Is Snape going to die to save Harry?

Well, Only JK Rowling knows that, but it would make things interesting.

> - Wouldn't it be the biggest surprise of all if Dumbledore had been
> wrong about Snape all this time, and he IS really trying to open
> Harry's mind more for Voldemort to read it, etc.? I don't think
> that's how it's going to happen (I hope not - Dumbeldore already has
> so much to feel guilty about after poor Sirius), but that would

That would be a big surprise, but we've already seen that Dumbledore can
make bigger mistakes than previously thought. I don't think it would be the
biggest surprise.

I hope that makes sense and helps out a bit.
