OoP spoilers - Why I hate the prefect selection etc.

Also, don't forget Ron was awarded a Special Award for service to 
the school and 200 points for his part in CoS -   compared to the 
other 3 Gryffindor boys, he is the outstanding one.   It's only 
compared to Harry that he seems less qualified.   

Also, certain things make Ron looks worse than he is -- one is the 
movie.   In the first book he does quite a few things -- he is the 
one who knocks out the troll and he plays the winning chess game.   
He doesn't go around making faces.     He is a bit of a buffoon in 
CoS because of his broken wand and his terror of spiders, but that's 
really the only one where he's a big joke. 

However, he really doesn't live up to the Prefect award -- he seems 
to spend no time acting like a prefect, we never see him helping a 
1st year do anything and he won't stand up to anyone.    If it's 
going to have the effect of helping him mature, it hasn't so far.
