I am not sure about this. I too have contenplated this many times and
unable to come up with an answer that has solid proof. At times I
think that JKR is planning on Harry dying in the very end because the
Potter books have never been like other books and it would be
something different. On the other hand it would be extremely
devastating if Harry died. Voldemort would reign uncontroled it would
be mass chaos, world-coming-to-an-end type of thing. We the fans know
that there will be 7 books to the Potter series and 7 books alone but
critics would think there would be room for a sequel if Harry died in
the end only because, "Someone has to defeat Voldemort."
The prophecy says, (roughly I don't have my book) "Neither can live
while the other survives." However it doesn't say anything about both
of them being killed. It seems very probable in my mind that they
will both die in the 'Final Battle'. Harry sacrificing all of himself
in order to kill Lord Voldemort.
Obviously Lord Voldemort has taken many precautions so that
killing him may take quite a bit more then just 'Avada Kadavra' to
kill him. It might take something more, something that would drain
Harry completely away in the end killing him. Or prehaps its still
something that would kill Lord Voldemort but instead of Harry it
would be someone else. Someone who is just as or almost as powerful
as Harry but it would kill them.
Just some thoughts. I guess we won't know for sure until book 7 but
we can certainly have ideas until then.
Tay :D
