This theory is heart wrenching, but sounds pretty solid.  Also, if 
Neville ever found out about this (i.e., why his parents were 
tortured) it may help explain why he seems to be suffering from a 
memory charm.  Maybe Gran went and wiped the slate clean so he 
wouldn't blame himself.
