Ron wasn't hit with a Cheering Charm, or smacked with a branch or
doused with potion. While those things are possible, they are highly
unlikely.

---OoP quotes---
...Ron, giggling weakly, lurched forwards, seizing the front of
Harry's robes and gazing at his with unfocused eyes. ...

Ron's face was very white and something dark was trickling from the
corner of his mouth. Next moment his knees gave way ...

"Harry, we saw Uranus up close!" said Ron, giggling feebly ....

A bubble of blood grew at the corner of Ron's mouth....

"I don't know what they hit him with," said Luna sadly, "but he's gone
a bit funny. I could hardly get hims along...."

...Ron, who had staggered to his feet and was tottering drunkenly
toward Harry....
---end quotes---

Why in the heat of battle in a room of planets would a Death Eater put
down/away his wand, and take out a poisonous tree branch and wack Ron
with it?

Equally so, why would they stop using their wand in an unlikely a
place as the room of planets where people float around in space, and
try and get close enough to splash Ron with a potion?

And certainly a nasty Death Eater would have no interest in 'cheering'
Ron up. The symptoms are all wrong for a Cheering Charm. Ron isn't
happy, he's stunned and delirious as a side effect of whatever spell
hit him.

And it was some kind of spell he was 'hit' with. Certainly other
things are possible, but I don't see any of them as being very likely.

Just a thought.
