I agree with what you said about Neville being present when his 
parents were tortured. Just to add to what you said about the 
Cruciatus Curse and the spider, Neville also has this to say when 
Harry opens his egg for the first time and hears the high-pitched 
wailing:
"It was someone being tortured!" said Neville, who had gone very 
white and spilled sausage rolls all over the floor. "You're going to 
have to fight the Cruciatus Curse!"

This tells me that he actually heard *someone* being tortured, so he 
would've had to been present, or in close proximity.
