Sorry if this point has been covered in more detail elsewhere - I
did a serach but couldn't find anything, so...

I love this so much, I really want it to be true! It would explain
why Snape is happy to live his life in the dungeons, and why his
office is so badly lit - and why JKR so often refers to his strange
eyes. As another poster said; he is always in the shadows. He even
finds shadows to lurk in in Lockhart's office in CoS. It would also
explain why he managed to wander along for so long and settle down
apparantly unconcern in such close proximity to his usual tormenters
in the pensieve - I've always wondered why he'd sit himself down so
close to MWPP and this might explain why he just didn't see them in
the bright sunlight.

However, I've been looking, and I can't find any hint in any of the
other books that suggests Snape has poor eyesight in any light
conditions. Specifically, I can find a few counter-examples. His
eyesight is good enough to referee a Quidditch match in broad
daylight, and good enough to keep his eyes focused on Harry while he
performs the counter-jinx to Quirrell's. If anyone can find any
examples that even hint at poor vision, I'd be thrilled and
delighted if they'd share
