The Sergeant Majorette says:
Which brings me to something that distracted me at first, and I still
have to explain it to myself every time I think of it. I was working
under the assumption that everything one studied at Hogwarts was some
kind of -mancy, suffix meaning magic (as in Arithmancy); when I saw
Occlumency and Legilimency, I heard the shrill whistle of the grammar
police in my head. But then I remembered that mens=mind, so what we
really have is 'obscuring the mind' and 'reading the mind'.
It seems that every spell is also a gift; that is, anybody with a
wand can cast the spell, but some people are naturally really, really
good at it.
