K Says: It's because of the ages of the weasley kids.
Bill's age is uncertain but he can't have graduated from Hogwarts any
earlier than 1981 (see the lexicon for why) making him no more than 4 years
older than Charlie at the most, then Percy is 9 years younger, the Twins are
2 years younger than him,. Ron 2 years younger still and Ginny a year
younger. This means that there is an unusually and surprisingly large gap
between Bill and Charlie. People speculate that there is a
dead/evil/otherwise missing child.
Lady Macbeth:
While this is true for the average person/family, there are special
circumstances to take into consideration here:
Bill Weasley, by estimation, was born Circa 1964-1965 (mid 1960's). Charlie
Weasley's d.o.b. believed to be 1967.
In the fall of 1981, Dumbledore tells McGonagall outside 4 Privet Drive:
Sorcerer's Stone, American Paperback Edition, pg 10:
----- "You can't blame them," said Dumbledore gently. "We've had precious
little to celebrate for eleven years." -----
This would put "Voldemort's Reign of Terror" as starting approximately fall
1970. (Oddly enough, the year before MWPP and such started school,
approximated.)
Arthur and Molly didn't have any children from 1967 to 1976 (Percy).
It's all together possible that the "Reign of Terror" kept the Weasleys (and
possibly other families) from considering children during that time. Also,
something seemed to be turning the tide of battle between 1976 and 1978 -
and here we have MWPP & Co. graduating from Hogwarts, Spring 1978. There
have also been hints, which have sparked topics/conversations on the list,
that Snape may have been introduced to the Death Eaters and James, Lily,
Remus, Sirius and Peter to the Order, before or about the time they were
done with school.
Coincidence?
Possibly - to some people, EVERYTHING in life is a coincidence. <G>
But, as I said, this may explain the gap in Weasley children - the "Reign of
Terror" started off badly, with Voldemort gaining power, supporters and
influence, but the establishment and organization of the Order turned the
tide of battle and brought confidence in the Dark Lord's downfall.
