I have absolutely no support for this, but I predict that...
Kreacher is dead. Either killed in anger by Lupin or some other friend
of Sirius's and the Order, or dead by his own hand.
If dead by his own hand, then he killed himself because he lost his
purpose in life. That purpose was to serve the House of Black, and now
he, as a servant of the House of Black, has taken action the lead to
it's downfall. The last Black is dead. Kreacher will certainly have to
punish himself for that.
True, there are living members of the Black family, but they live
under their married names. The Black family line that Kreacher's
family had served for centuries, is dead, and he had a hand in making
that happen.
I do have an alterior motive for wanting Kreacher dead. I have this
wild theory and hope that Sirius was wise enough to leave a will, and
in that will, the Weasleys inherit the Black estate. I could possibly
be Harry or a combination of relatives, but I'm hoping for the Weasleys.
So a great noble modest yet proud pureblood family inherits a mansion,
although admittedly not in the greatest neighborhood, and a huge pile
of gold. What's the one thing they now need? ... a house-elf. Who do
we know who is a house-elf who is totally unsatisfied with her job,
and would love to have a nice wizard family to serve again? ....
WINKY! It's a match made in heaven. (and maybe Dobby too)
Just a thought.
