What's bothering me about Ron

I don't dislike Ron.
But I've finally figured out what's bothering me about him in Book 5. It's
not him, per se, it's the situation. I think it's just too pat that all of a
sudden everything's fixed for Ron. In GoF, I was really intrigued. I thought
JKR was setting him up to go over to the dark side because of his jealousy
of Harry. I thought he was temptable, and that he was an interesting
character because of that. The war between his loyalty to Harry & his
family, vs. the need for external validation and his jealousy of Harry.
Now that theory's blown (which I always hate) but it's blown because all of
a sudden Ron is a Prefect/Quidditch-hero, which is really successful beyond
his wildest dreams, and should keep him happy through most of Book 6, if not
7. He's not really showing any signs of what I thought was a growing thing
between him and Hermione, so that's gone.
What I was really hoping for in this book, just a detail I hoped would come
up, was another dance. I wanted to see if Ron would ask Hermione. But that
whole thing just seems to have fallen through the cracks.
I just think that, yeah, there were some action scenes, but mostly Ron's a
flat-line in this book.
