It might not be a rule that first years can't be on the team, it could
have to do with skill. It is a sport and there are try outs, so maybe
most first years just aren't good enough to make the team. No one
seemed upset that Harry was on the team (and they probably would if
the rules were bent for him), but they did seem in awe that he was
able to be on it, which makes sense if he's really that much better
than everyone else.
