I had not known that the Black women's names were all flowers (great
research), but I have *long* noticed that flower names are the rule
rather than the exception for witches. The three examples above are
quite obvious (Pansy, Lavender, and Poppy), as was Narcissa, and I
also think Rosmerta should be counted as a more indirect one, and that
"Patil" sounds like "petal." To me it suggested the herbalist
tradition. Non-flower names tend to be significant for other reasons,
often classical--Minerva, Sybill, Hermione (feminine of Hermes
according to John Granger). I do think it's odd that someone from a
high-powered wizarding family like the Boneses would name their
daughter Susan, but then there are the black-eyed kind...
So I don't see any reason to think that there might be an Evans-Black
tie just because of flower names. However, I *have* wondered whether
this might indicate that Petunia has some magic in her. I hope so.
