I think it's on a similar line to the 'man of the match" award.  Lets 
face it, a Quidditch match cannot end until the seeker catches the 
snitch. Surely the seeker isn't paraded on shoulders at the end of 
every game of quidditch EVER? Other players contributions will be 
just as valuable, and Ron's performance was a staggering improvement 
on previous games. He deserved that moment of glory.
