Harry needs Ron in more aspects than just battles. He needs him emotinally. He needs his friendship and his support. I think its rather obvious that Harry won't need Ron to help him in his battles anymore. Afterall, in the end, Ron can't help him at all. It will be between Voldemort and Harry.

Originally, I was under the impression that there was a possibility that Ron might end up betraying Harry as well. After Book 5, I just don't think that possibility is feesible. I think the letter from Percy to Ron indicated Ron's loyalty more than anything else. Then there's the fact that Ron used his Prefects Badge to show his loyalty to Harry.... during Harry's row with Seamus. There's the fact that in the Twizard Tournament, Ron was the person Harry would miss most.

In regards to Dumbledore...

The fifth book has already shown that Dumbledore cares for Harry deeply. While I believe he cares for all of his students, there is a special bond between Dumbledore and Harry. I think that Dumbledore will lay down his life for Harry in the 7th book, but not before weakening Voldemort just enough so that Harry can kill him. Dumbledore will have then sacrficed himself so that Harry, and the rest of the world, will continue on living. Isn't he more like Christ in that sense than like God?

And if someone from the Order betrays Dumbledore, I think it will have just as much of an impact, if not more, than if someone would betray Harry.

I'm not meaning to start an argument on my second day! :( I think your views are very interesting, and you look at the book from an angle I have not. We'll just have to wait and see what happens :)

We don't know that. The battle in the MoM shows that Harry doesn't
need Ron as much we had previously thought.

And Percy, Voldemort or Wormtail didn't start off in the beginning
with active plans to betray or to kill. They had to get there by
themselves somehow. For Percy it was his desire for power in the
ministry that made him betray his family while for Wormtail it was
his desire to have powerful friends that made him a death eater and
for Voldemort it was probably his alienation and the lack of a real
home that set him down the road to becoming the Dark Lord.

And despite their supposed lack of similarities both Ron and Percy
have a desire for power, authority and prestige.

Doubt it. In all respects Dumbledore is the equivalent of God in the
books and it will lessen the impact of the betrayal if Dumbledore
instead of Harry is betrayed.
