I wouldn't say it's been discussed ad nauseum. Even if it has, don't be
afraid to post on it. One never knows when a new point of view will be
brought to a tried and true thread that can change someone's perceptions.
As for the threat at the train, I have no idea why people think Hermione was
behind it. Haven't finished reading yesterday's posts. To me, it seems
obvious that Dumbledore is the one that okayed it. For years, no one bugged
Harry at the Dursleys because Dumbledore wanted him left alone there. He
wanted the Wizarding World to not get involved with Harry, although
obviously exceptions were made for the Weasleys and Hermione because Ron and
Hermione are his closest friends. It is only after the events at the Dept.
of Mysteries and his talk with Harry that he has decided that a little
interference is acceptable, for whatever reason (compassion, safety of the
Prophecied One, whatever). I speculate that certain members in the Order
(the Weasleys, Sirius, Figg, McGonagall, perhaps Lupin) have not been happy
with the way Harry has been treated at the Dursleys and have been begging to
intervene for years. Dumbledore finally gave his permission, but probably
had a hand in how it was done.

I have read posts speculating that Snape had a hand in this based on what he
saw in Harry's mind. As you can see above, I do not believe this to be the
case, either. Dumbledore knew full well what Harry was living with. For
some reason, I get the feeling that Harry's personal memories remained
between Snape and Harry. Snape only told Dumbledore about things he'd seen
pertaining to the Dept. of Mysteries and Voldemort's current actions.
Regardless of what Snape truly thinks about Harry's life with the Dursleys,
I just don't see him getting involved in it, even if he didn't have this
deep hatred of anything Potter. After all, no one probably got involved
when it was he who was the victim. He feels he got through it, so Harry
will as well. Even, for argument's sake, Snape did say something to
Dumbledore about how Harry had been being treated, it would still be
Dumbledore who would have to sanction the action taken in the train station,
simply because he is the head of the Order. Dumbledore is the equivalent of
the General of the Forces of Light, and looking at things from that
viewpoint, Harry is very important strategically, being the person that can
decide the outcome of the entire war. I get the impression nothing is done
in connection to Harry without Dumbledore's say-so.
