I was musing over the Draco and Snape discussions that are
frequently quite polarized. Are they bad to the bone or just
waiting for that perfect moment to redeem themselves? My view has
always been split (Draco: all bad and Snape: soon to redeem himself)
until recently. I started to see some parallels between Draco and
Sirius and wondered whether this is part of the reason that JKR gave
us a view of the Sirius/James band back at Hogwarts as part of OotP.

1)Sirius and Draco are both jerks at school. They belittle others
and tend toward cruel behavior.

2)Sirius and Draco both come from pureblood families.

3)Sirius and Draco are both from wealthy families.

4)Sirius and Draco are both from anti-Muggle families who are
supportive of Dark Arts and Death Eater activities.

Here's the stretch:

Could Draco follow Sirius' path by finally seeing the evil of his
father's ways and severing ties with Lucius just as Sirius left
his
family late in his Hogwarts years? Clearly, Draco is not ready for
this quite yet as shown by his confrontation with Harry at the end
of OotP, but maybe by the end of Book 6? Perhaps, Draco can be
saved after all. His Slytherin nature will make it difficult, but I
have hope for him now.
