Not much unlike the old laws regarding mixing of races. It used to
be that *any* black ancestor made3 you black - the only whites were
truly *pure* blooded. Remember Siruis's comments about marrying
between pureblood families - all of the purebloods are related in one
way or another because there are only so many purebloods left. This
would suggest that no matter how many generations back, if there is a
muggle, then you are a mudblood.
The more interesting question, perhaps, is which came first - the
wizarding families, or the muggles? If the Wizarding families came
first the perhaps all the muggles are descended from squibs. If the
Muggles came first, then go back far enough and *all* wizards have
muggles in their lineage. Who were the Adam and Eve of the Wizarding
World?
