What will the law allow? There is no body, thus there is no absolute proof that Sirius is dead. Why would any law firm or bank or any other legal entity simply hand over an inheritance or act on a will (if there is one) with no absolute proof of death?

I was wondering the same thing about the proof. My worry is that even with everyone vouching that he was there and that he indeed went through the veil, how would they be able to convince anyone that Sirius -- dreaded mass murderer, traitor, and escaped prisoner from Azkaban -- was actually fighting on the side of the good guys and was not there as a DE?

Finchen commented:

Well there would be a possibility but I don't know it is would be allowed: Take Wormtail to court and use the Verita Serum. he could not do other than say the truth! But the use of this potion underlies heavy restrictions....

I expect the inheritance to come into play, and recapping my favorite posts (thanks everyone!) Harry and Lupin come into the bulk of the "estate." Maybe even the Weasley's are included (this would soften up Molly!). I doubt anyone "wants" #12 Grimmauld, but I thought it would be a great R&D site for the Gred and Forge Novelty Co. I also doubt JKR will make a big deal of the legalities involved with the passage of Sirius' property. It didn't seem that Sirius had trouble accessing his wealth, even as a wanted fugitive (broom purchase, state of his clothing, etc.). It seems the goblin-bankers at Gringotts don't really care about "legal." They are the Swiss bankers of the WW, and have their own "laws" about transfers and access.
