I thought they had left that part in the movie to give a flavor to 
the scene without recreating the whole scene, but I like your 
suggestion that it is more important.  I just reread it, and the 
usefullness of the Hand of Glory is interesting - it holds a candle 
that sheds light only for the person holding it.  Lucius dismissed 
it, but Malfoy was interested in it.
