It just reminds me of this piece of a sentence from ch. 31, where 
the Gryffs are studying for their Charms Owls:

[...]and Parvati and Lavender, who were practicing basic locomotion 
charms, were making their PENCIL CASES race each other around the 
edge of the table. [emphasis mine]

I just think it's a bit of RL intruding into JKR's thought process 
as she wrote, nothing important.

PENCIL CASES is no name for a band, but it would be a really good 
acronym if I had a theory to go with it...
