I think there's a lot of symbolic forshadowing in this statue.  I 
see it as representing the current wizarding world.  The first time 
Harry sees it, he thinks its all shiny and heroic and impressive.  
Then he looks at it some more, and notices how vapid and dishonest 
it is.  And by the end of the book, the statue has been shattered.  
This fits in with my longstanding theory that in the end, Harry's 
quest will be not just to defeat Voldemort, but to bring down the 
system and reform the wizard world.
