<Dublina previously>....if you feel like this re. the 'passing' of
Sirius then do you feel the same way with all the dreadful things
that happened to Harry to the point where you won't have the same
level of anticipation?
<Marianne previously> I'm not sure whether you're referring to the
awful things that have happened to Harry already, or to whatever
nastiness JKR has planned for him in the future. Either way, while I
can empathize with Harry, and wish that this kid had a normal life,
the possibilities of what lies in store won't ratchet up my
anticipation to fever heights.
Perhaps part of my reaction to OoP is also tied in with the fact that
I came late to Potterverse. I read the first 4 books after GoF came
out, so I ate it all in one huge chunk. No waiting for years for the
next book until OoP. And, while I'm more than happy with Harry as
being the main focus, and the vehicle to carry the action forward, it
is the adults in the series that I find more interesting.
I do want to know what happens, the final denouement. I want to see
how all the threads come together. I want to know what loose ends
will be left for further speculation. But, my level of anticipation
will be the same as when new books from, say, a favorite mystery
author comes out. I will want to read the books, but there will be
much less of an emotional investment,
if that makes sense.<Marianne previously>
<Dublina> I was refering to the cruel ordeal that Harry has had to
contend with and I would assume that he has alot more atrocities to
come if the 2nd war is approaching. _If_ (there are to many
questions left unanswered) JKR has killed off his godfather and there
are still two more volumes forthcoming I *will* assume that there
will be more *carnage* for Harry to deal with.
I agree with you that the adults of the books are far more
appealing/interesting since I can not relate to teens as I havent
been one for quite some time, though, the combination of both adult
and teen emotions I find the crux of the whole story. For example:
Snape as a teen (ie the Penseive scene) followed by Snape as the
adult and subsequently Snape as the adult dealing with teens. For the
record, I am neither a Snape or a Sirius fan.
I, too, also came 'late' into Potterverse and to be honest, I have no
idea when GoF came out. All I know is that I read the first four
volumes just before the first movie was previewed, (2001?), *but*
the 'buzz' that will be in the air (pre and post purchase) when the
6th volume is on sale, is going to be just as great as it was for the
fifth.
I should ask you my question again, say, a week before the 6th goes
on sale, and then we should have a brilliant <grin> debate then!
