Normally I don't respond or voice my ideas on posts of this nature in
case I repeat an old thread or get angry responses to what I wrote (I'm more of
SHIP and romantic poster) However when I read this post I just HAD to tell my
theory on how Snape won Dumbledore's trust. Here goes:
Snape first comes to Dumbledore , not asking to be a spy but telling
Dumbledore that Voldemort is/was after Lily and James. If I remember correctly,
in book 3 Fudge? tells Madame Rosmerta that Lily and James knew Voldemort was
after them because a spy tipped off Dumbledore about. How much to bet , that
that spy was Snape. That's probably why Dumbledore accepted Snape to his side
and trusted him (Snape probably did other stuff to earn DD's trust also but this
was the main) because Snape risked his life to save the person he most hated.
It sounds like something Snape would do because, as we all remember, in
Book 1 , Snape felt forcefully in debt to James (because James saved his life
in the whole 6th year feed Snape to the werewolf fiasco). SO telling
Dumbledore that Lily and James were in mortal danger was probably his first attempt to
rid himself of the life debt, but since they died anyway the debt remained
unpaid. He was also probably sick of Voldemorts nasty ways
If this has already been posted please tell me nicely
and if there are gaping holes in this theory, please do the same
tootles,
Elvin
