I still don't call it irresponsible.  Considering that Harry was going to the MOM and risking his own life (and that of his friends) to save Sirius (so he thought), I'd consider it irresponsible to sit on his bottom at home like a good boy.  Of course, he could've stayed behind and killed Kreacher.  That aside, I think if Harry had gone to the MOM and gotten killed thinking he was going to save Sirius, living with that thought would've been a thousand times worse than spending the rest of his life in Azkaban.  I don't blame Sirius for a second for going.  I don't think it was irresponsible.  While Sirius wasn't a parent, he knew he was the closest thing Harry had to one, I'd be ashamed of any parent who wouldn't go to their child's aide in a simiar situation, regardless of how many others are going to help.
