tell us a kiss happened, then there simply was no kiss.
Now, me,
I do ship (H/Hr), but I also find the extents to which some shippers
go to prove a point quite 'interesting.' Shipping details have
indeed been muddied (purposely) by JKR and further by shippers
themselves, BUT I do object to the notion that if something is not
stated specifically, we cannot assume. The H/Hr shippers have every
right to assume that Hermione kissed Harry too, especially from the
context, and especially, as most of us assume that the kiss was
platonic.
There are several instances in the text of OoP where we are asked to
supply missing information that is not stated specifically. It is a
standing joke through the book that every time Hermione mentions
Voldemort's name in Ron's presence, he makes some kind of terrified
reaction: OoP, Ch 16, p. 332 (American edition) Hermione
speaking: "...I mean, we're talking about defending ourselves
against V-Voldemort--oh, don't be pathetic, Ron--..." p. 333 " The
trouble is," she said to Harry, "until V-Voldemort--oh for heaven's
sake, Ron--..." I found it fun to imagine what Ron's actual reaction
was and found myself a bit annoyed that I simply could not imagine my
literary Ron making them as Rupert Grint's very expressive face kept
coming to mind. :-)
My point is, Ron's reaction was implied by the context, but never
stated.
>From the time he arrived in the Great Hall, Ron is dazed and confused
and thinks he was 'mental' to believe he could play keeper. (OoP, Ch.
19 ) After the kiss, Ron is "touching the place on his cheek, looking
puzzled as though he was not quite sure what had just happened." It
is only a bit of encouragement and it's implied she 'encouraged' both
boys without there being more to it than that.
