Having read the opinions above, I am
curious to find out what you make of the
following (taken from the end of the
scene/chapter where Mrs. Weasley had to
admit that she had to get Ron's dress
robes secondhand, which meant there
Weren't a lot of choices):

Harry looked away. He would willingly
have split all the money in his Gringotts
vault with the Weasleys, but he knew they
would never take it.

Though in truth, it's not all the Weasleys
who would feel any qualm - Fred & George
overcame theirs quickly enough! :) But
Ron certainly didn't want Harry buying
stuff for him at QWC and I do agree with
Harry's assessment - that Mr. and Mrs.
Weasley seem more likely to make do (buy
second-hand robes and set books etc.)
than accept anything from Harry.

In short, Molly and Arthur do not see
Harry as being one of their peers and
surely considers it their place (nay...
their privilege!) to give to Harry. For
Harry to give the Weasleys something
they could use seem to imply that
Molly and Arthur couldn't fulfill
their own needs while an orphan can.

I agree that trivials like a bouquet
of flowers or a box of Chocolate Frogs
whenever Harry stays over would be a
nice gesture that couldn't be
mistaken for anything but tokens of
appreciation...however...we ARE talking
about a 'realistic' teenage boy here,
right?! <wink> He's also never had
much time to plan on buying presents
before he arrives at the Burrow.
