The Sergeant Majorette says:

"...abandoned me even before I was born..." Is it me, or does it 
sound like Tom is rationalizing? Like, maybe Daddimort didn't even 
wait around to find out she was a witch. Maybe he dumped her when he 
found out she was pregnant.
So we have the universally beloved golden child of beloved parents 
vs. the orphan bastard who doesn't even have one year's worth of 
happy family memories to fall back on.
