It is possible that this has been discussed already (searched archive
and could not find anything...but still could be there). I just
watched the special features for the Harry Potter and the Chamber
of Secrets DVD in which JKR and the screenwriter talk about
converting the script to screen. At one point, the screenwriter says
something like, "well there was something I wanted to take out and I
went to Jo and asked her if it was important and she said yes, that
needs to stay because it is important for the whole series."

I just watched the movie again and I was trying to think what the
screenwriter wanted to cut. Here are a couple of criteria I have
come up with:
1) it is probably a scene/character not significant to the plot of
the Chamber of Secrets. Something that can be taken out without
mpacting the immediate story.
2) it is something that would not seem to be important (or why would
the screenwriter consider cutting it).

Here are a couple of possibilities:
1) was Hagrid really in knockturn alley to by slug repellent?
2) the polyjuice potion stuff (really they don't find out much there)
3) Dobby regaining his freedom
4) Gilderoy Lockhart losing his memory

Any other ideas?
Jake

Me: How about Harry making Dobby promise that he will never try to
save his life again? Dobby has helped Harry out of tight situations
in Books 4 & 5, but he has never attempted to save his life, which he
could have tried since he might have known that somebody must have
entered Harry's name into the GoF in an attempt to hurt him. Dobby
remains a friend, but basically stays out of Harry's life.

Why are DD, Hermione and Dobby all obsessed with socks?

<Dublina> This was about a year or two ago and if anybody knows of
where it might be on the internet, I would love to read it again, but
in an interview with JKR I vaguely remember her mentioning that
Seamus (sp?) needed to be seen making mistakes. There was a mention
of cutting those two scenes 1) in Prof Flitwick class he was meant to
make the feather float but it exploded and 2) when he was trying to
change a ?drink? and Ron stated, 'I managed a weak tea, yesterday'
and then the owl post arrives.

Also, if we think about those two scenes, are they compulsory for the
story of PS/SS *movie* to evolve? Love to hear peoples input...

Anyway it was something that couldnt be cut out. This is from memory
and I havent seen PS/SS in a little while...but I *know* it was
Seamus that had to be seen making the mistakes. Also, I would assume
that this interview was around 2001 when the first movie came out
which is why I'm not able to recall it very well (ahem)!

Can anybody add to this?
D
