If I remember well, Harry found the written Potions hard, so it would
be the other way around, his practical making up for his written.

Personally, I'd be way more interested if he DIDN'T get top grades,
if he failed in one of his required lessons, and couldn't become an
Auror. Would serve him well for being so arrogant and holding studies
in such low esteem... But then, since he's Harry Potter and McG swore
she would help him become an Auror, I guess she would bend the rules
for him yet again...

Excuse me ??? She studied hard, she learned her lessons, she
practiced hard, I don't see how getting good results at her OWLs
would be "an easy time" ?! She paid the price, why shouldn't she get
the stuff ? I don't consider it "too simple" when hard-working
students get good grades, I consider it logical. It's when they don't
that it gets tough.

And as for wild theories : what about Neville becoming an Auror ?
He's bound to have done well in DADA. He's not that bad in
Transfiguration since McG told him at the beginning of the year that
he just needed to believe in himself a bit more, and we know he
developed a good deal of self-confidence over that year, so I'll bet
he did good in Transfiguration. Same goes for Charms. The only
problematic class has always been Potions. But doesn't it strike you
as meaningful that the book used that year in that class was "1000
magical herbs and fungi", when we know that Neville is so dead good
at Herbology ? I think we might be surprised at how well Neville did
on his theory paper, and we already know he didn't do anywhere as bad
during his practice OWL as he usually did during lessons when Snape
was around. So it could very well be that Neville will get into Auror
training along with Harry.
