Has anyone thought that the ultimate fate in store for Harry is that
he might lose his magical powers in the final duel with Voldemort,
and just become an ordinary muggle as a result ? And that the whole
magical interlude of the 7 books turns out to be the product of the
over-vivid imagination of a boy, who finally grows up and becomes an
adult and forgets it all ? I saw JKR's TV interview with Paxman in
the UK before OotP was published, and was much struck with what she
said about children having to grow up and not be preserved for ever
like Peter Pan (whom she described as creepy), or the Famous Five.
She is also a fan of Pullman, who pursues a similar theme in his Dark
Materials trilogy, and she has said emphatically that she does not
believe in magic of the wands and incantation type..??
