I don't think much distinction is made between these in the 
Potterverse.   The muggle world generally assumes that 'warlock' means 
'male witch', but it might be more accurate to render it as 'traitor' 
or 'oath-breaker'.

I repeat, JKR seems to use 'warlock' & 'wizard' interchangeably.  My 
remarks are merely the unavoidable by-product of an over-cluttered mind.
