Although we may equate it with rebels, iIn many cultures and legends,
etc. long hair has represented wisdom, strength, respect earned over
time, and honor.
Think of Sampson, Jesus Christ, Imperial guard of China, colonists,
military, religious groups, etc. who all wore their hair long. As
well as the Norman men, Scots and some Slavic nations. It was very
common to find men with long hair in these cultures. Additionally,
our legal system has its origins in a system of long haired
legislators or bewigged (is this a word?) men. Long hair also
indicates to a small extent longevity, and can be seen as a rite of
passage-earned as we age (including incredibly long beards)
