I wondered about that passage too. You may be right. Or, it could be 
that Harry did that unintentionally as with his attempt to outrun 
Dudley's friends that resulted in him leaping to the top of a 
chimney. It would make sense that Lily's protection is directly 
opposed to the power that Lily died trying to protect Harry from, but 
then we really don't know everything about it. Even now, they haven't 
told Harry the complete story surrounding his parents' death. Were 
they only on the run because of their resistance to Voldemort, or 
were they specifically in hiding to protect Harry? No one has said so 
far.
