A boggart can only be gotten rid by the riddikklus
spell. In GOF Harry tries a patronus charm on a
boggart, because he thought it was a real dementor,
the dementor boggart stumbled. So when
Harry is told that he would have to get rid of a
boggart for his practical DADA, he used the
riddikkulus spell. Had he used a patronus charm, he
most likely would have failed.
