ara_bob2000:
Surely wizarding courts would use either Veritaserum or truth spells
to conclusively assess a defendants guilt or innocence?

Can anyone think why this would not be the case?

(I reckon perhaps that Veritaserum is a bit poisonous, hence its'
use is 'controlled by very strict Ministry guidelines').

Me(Dan):
I think Veritaserum is probably very expensive and/or difficult to make--that would be the only reason I could think of. As for truth spells, I have no idea. Have we heard of those in canon?
