Hi
I've been lurking here for a while and would like to share some of my
ideas. All of the usual apologies apply.
There are some clues that lead me to believe that there is more than
one orb that applies to our story. Bode, under the impervious curse
by Malfoy, tries to retrieve the orb from the Hall of Prophecy. He
is rendered insane by the charms that protect them. Dumbledore
explains in OoP p. 829, "Only the people to whom they refer can lift
them form the shelves without suffering madness." If Bode's madness
is due to touching an orb it is not from Harry's orb. JKR writes OoP
p. 779, "Ron was pointing at one of the small glass spheres that
glowed with a dull inner light, though it was very dusty and appeared
not to have been touched for many years." So, what prophecy did Bode
try to get?
There are clues in Harry's prophecy that point to what Bode was
after. Let's look at Harry's prophecy from OoP p.841.
"THE ONE WITH THE POWER TO VANQUISH THE DARK LORD APPROACHES
.
BORN TO THOSE WHO HAVE THRICE DEFIED HIM, BORN
AS THE SEVENTH MONTH DIES
AND THE DARK LORD WILL MARK
HIM AS HIS EQUAL, BUT HE WILL HAVE POWER THE DARK LORD KNOWS NOT
AND
EITHER MUST DIE AT THE HAND OF THE OTHER FOR NEITHER
CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES
. THE ONE WITH THE
POWER TO VANQUISH THE DARK LORD WILL BE BORN AS THE SEVENTH
MONTH DIES
."
The first thing I notice is the use of all caps and the bold caps.
Dark Lord is bold as well as the first letter of each sentence.
Notice that sentences are defined by periods and pauses by ellipses.
I believe that each sentence is a prophecy about a different person,
and that these prophecies are so closely related or in some way
intertwined that they are all grouped into one orb. Another
explanation would be that they have been misinterpreted to be one
prophecy.
Each of the three prophecies has a statement about the birth of a
person. Three sentences and three birth statements about one person
would be quite redundant. The first and second prophecy birth
statements contain a reference to July. "Approaches" in the first
prophecy makes me think farther into the future, or rather July makes
me think in the year the prophecy was made.
The second prophecy is refers to Harry. Dumbledore's explanation of
the prophecy stays within the lines of this prophecy. The only
divergence I saw was, vanquish, OoP p.842, which isn't in Harry's
prophecy. I don't have a problem with that since killing Voldemort
is a permanent form of vanquishing. Further evidence that this
sentence is Harry's prophecy is found in OoP p. 844, ""Harry
asked""
""The end of the prophecy
it was something about
"neither
can live
"" And then Dumbledore confirms the end of Harry's
prophecy, ""
while the other survives."" The problem is that there
is one more sentence in the prophecy, but it belongs to Neville.
The last prophecy has a birth statement for July, seemingly in the
same year that the prophecy was made, that fits Neville. I think
something will happen in Neville's life that will make him fit the
prophecy better. He will be getting a new wand, that may increase
his power, but I bet it's more than that. Neville also has a
connection with Harry and Ginny that I will look at in prophecy one.
The first prophecy has a birth statement that isn't limited to the
year that the prophecy was made. It also is stated that this person
has the vanquishing power, as does everyone in these three
prophecies. I have chosen Ginny for this prophecy. Her experiences
in CoS could not have left her "unmarked". She was possessed on
several occasions by Voldemort. Is it possible that Voldemort
transfers power to these people when he does this? Her abilities are
beyond her years. Prophecy one isn't gender specific like prophecy
two. And finally Ginny, Harry, and Neville were all entranced in the
Death Room by the veil. I don't know what this means but I think
it's clear they have something in common.
So
I have to ask again, which prophecy was Bode trying to get? Was
it a copy of this one?
Sorry this was so long.
