I assumed, since Mr. Weasley later admits he dozed off, that the 
cloak had fallen from him while he was sleeping.  So it never 
occurred to me that the snake could see through the cloak - I just 
figured that the upper part of Mr. Weasley's body was visible because 
the cloak had slipped off of his upper body and onto his legs.
